Using what you download
NeoDownloader copies what you point it at. What may be taken from a site, and what may be done with it afterwards, is yours to decide. This page says what the program does around that decision, and what it deliberately does not do.
You decide
NeoDownloader keeps no list of allowed sites and has no opinion about a file. It does not read a site's terms for you and does not check what a project downloads. What a site allows is written on the site's own pages, and the rights to the material are between you and whoever holds them.
Every file keeps where it came from
Each file records the name and the description the site gave it, and where it came from: the page the file itself was found on when the plugin knows it, and otherwise the file's own address. Open on the site in the file's menu opens that page or address again. See What you can do with a file.
Nothing is written into the files themselves: what lands on the disk is what the site sent, except that Video Downloader joins a video's picture and sound into one file when the site sends them apart.
What a site says is shown before the project is made
For some sites the wizard shows a notice that the site states its own terms, with a link to the site's own page, and Create project waits until you tick I have read this. The notice only names the subject and carries no reading of ours; what the site says lives on the page it links to. NeoDownloader records that it was shown to you and that you ticked the box - nothing else. See Name and folder.
Most sites have no such notice, and its absence says nothing either way.
The pace a run keeps
A program that fetches five hundred files is not a person clicking five hundred times, and the site pays for the difference. So a run takes only a few files at a time from one site and waits out the pause when a site asks it to slow down. Crawler also waits between requests - Seconds between requests, one second by default; setting it to zero is the quickest way to have your IP address blocked. See Manners and Why a run waits.
When you sign in to a site
What downloads after you sign in comes down under your account, and the site counts it as your activity. Accounts do get blocked for that. See Sites you have to sign in to.
What NeoDownloader does not do
- It does not check what you download, whose it is, or what you mean to do with it.
- It does not interpret a site's terms and does not retell them: it names only what they are about and links to the site's own page.
- It tells us nothing about your downloads - see Privacy.
