Troubleshooting
Find the words NeoDownloader showed you - on a project's card, in the wizard or on the Journal tab - and read what to do. If nothing here helps, see Reporting a problem.
Making a project
No plugin handles this address
The wizard says No plugin handles this address. The project can still be created, but nothing will run it. None of the plugins can download from the address. Check that you pasted all of it and that it opens in your browser. What each plugin takes is in Plugins.
Unreachable
A plugin's card in the wizard says Unreachable: the site did not answer the check, or answered with an error. Open the address in your browser: if it does not open there either, check the address and your connection; if it does, try again.
Login needed
A plugin's card in the wizard says Login needed: the plugin knows the address, but the site wants you to sign in. On the wizard's last step, tick This site needs me to sign in first when the plugin offers it: the run then opens the site's page first, and you sign in there. More in Sites you have to sign in to for Video Downloader and for Gallery Downloader, and in Pages you look at before a run for Crawler. What a sign-in costs your account and where it is kept is in Signing in to a site.
Starting and running
Free version limit
The Free version limit window opens instead of the wizard, or when a run stops: in the first case you have as many projects as the free version keeps, in the second the project has reached a limit on files. See When a project reaches a limit.
The plugin that handled this project is not installed any more
The Properties tab of an open project says The plugin that handled this project is not installed any more. The project cannot run without it. Open Settings… → Extensions → Plugins to see which plugins are there; see The Plugins page. Plugins come with NeoDownloader, so if one of them has gone missing, write to us.
Plugin failed
The card says Plugin failed, and the journal says The plugin stopped without saying how it ended: the plugin quit in the middle of the run. Start the project again. If it happens again, report the problem and include the copied journal.
The plugin went quiet and was ended
The journal says The plugin went quiet and was ended. Seconds waited: 300: the plugin said nothing for as many seconds as the line says, so NeoDownloader ended it. Start the project again. How long NeoDownloader waits is How long to wait on a silent plugin (see Runs). If it keeps happening, report the problem.
The run broke against something in the core
The card or the journal says The run broke against something in the core: …. The core is the part of NeoDownloader that runs projects and plugins, and this line means a fault in NeoDownloader itself. Report the problem and send the copied journal and the log.
Downloading files
Completed with errors
The run finished, but some files from the project's own site did not download. The Journal tab says which and why; its lines are explained in Lines about files. Start from the beginning tries those files again, and files already downloaded are not downloaded again.
With errors is different: the run itself failed, and the card gives the reason where the numbers would be.
The site refused: HTTP 403
The site would not give the file. Open the address shown under the line in your browser. If it opens there, start the project again later: files that failed are tried again. The site refused: HTTP 404 means the file is not on the site any more.
Cannot reach the site, The site did not answer in time
The connection failed, or the site took too long to answer. Each file is tried several times - Attempts per file in Downloads. If the connection is gone for long, the run goes on trying file after file: click Stop, restore the connection, then click Start from the beginning.
Unexpected failure: [Errno 28] No space left on device
The disk the project downloads to is full. Click Stop, free some space, then click Start from the beginning. If something else follows Unexpected failure:, report the problem.
A run is waiting
The run's strip gives the reason it waits: a site's limit, your own limit, or a pause the site asked for. See Why a run waits.
The folder to download into cannot be reached
The journal says The folder to download into cannot be reached, and neither can the one it sits in: …: a drive is disconnected, or a network folder is not available. Connect it and start the project again, or choose the folder's new place; see Moved folders and external drives.
Sites
Nothing found on … - the page may need a browser
Crawler read the page and found nothing on it: the site probably draws the page with script. In the project's Site settings, set Use a browser to Yes and start the project again. See When it uses a browser.
… is behind an anti-robot check
The journal says … is behind an anti-robot check (…) - open it in a browser, pass the check, and point the crawl at it again. The site wants to see a person first. In the project's Plugin settings, under Manners, set Show the page before a run to Always and start the project again. The page opens in a window called Check this before the download starts: pass the check there and click Continue. See Pages you look at before a run.
A site that used to work gives nothing
Sites change, and a plugin can stop downloading from a site until it is fixed. The fix comes in a new version of NeoDownloader: open the menu, choose About… and click Check for updates (see Update NeoDownloader). If you already have the latest version, write to us and give the address.
Files and the window
Not on disk
A file shows Not on disk: it was deleted or moved outside NeoDownloader, or its drive is not connected. Put the file back or connect the drive; see Files that are not on disk.
NeoDownloader is not responding
The window says NeoDownloader is not responding and It may have stopped. Start it and reload this page. Close NeoDownloader and start it again. If this keeps happening, report the problem and send the log.
The window shows something out of date
Press Ctrl + Shift + R to reload the window without the cache; see The window.
Windows protected your PC
Windows may show this the first time you run a new release. Click More info, then Run anyway; see Install NeoDownloader.
