Gallery Downloader
Gallery Downloader takes galleries, albums and profiles from the sites it knows by name, and arranges the files the way the site arranges them. This page covers the sections of a profile, folders and names, sites you have to sign in to, a cookies file, access to DeviantArt, and the videos it does not take.
What it takes
Gallery Downloader takes addresses on the sites it knows by name. It does not take direct links to files: those are for Direct links. It fetches two files at a time from a site, and one at a time from Instagram.
Sections of a profile
On some sites one profile address holds several things - on Instagram, for example, Posts, Stories, Highlights, Reels and Tagged. For such an address the wizard asks What to take from this page and shows Sections with a box to tick for each section.
- Ticked is what the site gives without being asked. Every extra section is another walk over the site - under your own account, if you are signed in to it.
- On Instagram, stories last a day: what comes down is what is up right now, and what the author kept is under Highlights.
- Only Instagram's sections and a few common ones, such as Profile picture and Favourites, are translated; the rest are shown in English, such as With replies.
You can change the ticks later in the project's Site settings.
Folders and names
Inside the project's folder, Gallery Downloader puts the files into folders the way the site arranges them - by author, album or tag, depending on the site. For an address with sections, each section gets a folder of its own named in English, such as posts or stories, even when only one section is ticked.
One folder, under Folders in the project's Plugin settings, puts every file straight into the project's folder instead.
File names are made from what the site says about each file. On Instagram a name has the author, the date, the number in a carousel and the start of the caption - for example, someone [2026.08.31] #2 Morning at the lake.jpg.
What happens when a file with that name is already in the folder is decided by If a file with that name already exists; see Files already in the folder.
Sites you have to sign in to
Show the page before starting, under Access, decides whether a run opens the site's page for you first:
- Never - the page does not open, and the run does not use a sign-in.
- If the site needs it - the default. The page opens only on a site known to want a sign-in, and only when NeoDownloader has no sign-in for that site; on other sites the run does not use a sign-in.
- Always - the page opens in Sign in on the site once for each site of the project, before that site's addresses are read. Sign in if you need to, then click Continue.
For a site you have to sign in to that is not known to want a sign-in, choose Always. Ticking This site needs me to sign in first on the wizard's last step sets Always for the new project.
What downloads after you sign in comes down under your account, and the site counts it as your activity.
A cookies file
Cookies file, under Access, takes a cookies.txt file exported from your browser - for sites that hide galleries behind a sign-in. On a site where the run uses your sign-in from NeoDownloader, as described above, the file is not used. On every other site the file is used, whatever Show the page before starting says.
When a site wants a sign-in the run does not have, the journal says … needs a login. Point the plugin at a cookies file exported from your browser.
Access to DeviantArt
DeviantArt shows its whole catalogue only to an application you have allowed to read it. When a run reaches a DeviantArt address and NeoDownloader holds no permission yet, the window Allow the site to be read shows DeviantArt's own page asking for your permission; NeoDownloader asks only for permission to browse. If DeviantArt remembers that you allowed it before, the window does not open. Without the permission DeviantArt hands over only what it shows a stranger.
The permission is kept in Settings… → Extensions → Site access → DeviantArt until you clear it there.
Videos it does not take
Some sites hand over a gallery's videos not as files but as links for Video Downloader. Gallery Downloader takes such a video when the site gave the video's own address too. When it did not, the video is not taken, and the journal says how many there were: Videos in …: … came as a link for Video Downloader, not as a file - not taken here.
