Common questions

Short answers to what people ask most. Where there is more to say, the answer links to it.

Is NeoDownloader free?

Yes. The free version has no time limit and needs no registration. It downloads up to 100 pictures, 10 videos and 10 other files per project, keeps up to 10 projects, and downloads video up to 1080p. When a project reaches a limit on files, its run stops, and NeoDownloader tells you which limit it was. More in Free version and Premium.

Premium lifts all of these limits and downloads video up to 8K. See the order page.

Is it a subscription?

No. Premium is a one-time payment of $29.95, and it includes a year of updates. Every version released during that year stays Premium for good; another year of updates costs $19.95. If Premium turns out not to be for you, you can get your money back within 30 days; see Money back.

Can I use Premium on more than one computer?

Yes. One Premium licence works on up to five computers at a time: activate it on each of them with the same code. To move it off a computer you no longer use, first click Deactivate in the Licence window there. More in Five computers.

I have lost my activation code

Write to us and choose Lost Registration Code in To. Give the email address you bought Premium with.

Which sites can it download from?

The quickest way to find out is to try: paste the address into New project, and the wizard asks every plugin whether it can handle it. There are four:

  • Video Downloader takes video and sound from video sites.
  • Gallery Downloader takes galleries and albums from the sites it knows by name.
  • Crawler knows some sites by name - 500px, Bing Images, Flickr, Google Images, IMDb and Reddit - and reads any other page as a single page, a gallery, a forum thread or a whole site.
  • Direct links downloads addresses that point straight at a file.

More about each of them is in Plugins. The sites NeoDownloader knows by name are listed on Supported sites.

Can I download a list of links at once?

Yes. In New project, click Add more addresses and put one address per line, or paste the whole list. Keep to one site per project: the first address decides which plugin runs it. More in What do you want to download?

Where are my files?

In the project's folder. Installed NeoDownloader puts it in your Downloads folder, inside NeoDownloader; the portable version puts it in the downloads folder beside the program. To open it, open the project, go to Properties and click Open the folder. More in Find your files and Data and folders.

Does running a project again download everything again?

No. NeoDownloader goes through the source again and downloads only what is new, and files you deleted in NeoDownloader are not downloaded again by that project. More in Run it again later.

It used to download from a site, and now it gets nothing

Sites change, and a plugin can stop downloading from a site until it is fixed; the fix comes in a new version of NeoDownloader. See A site that used to work gives nothing.

Can I keep NeoDownloader 5?

Yes. Version 6 is a separate program with its own folders: installing it leaves version 5 where it is, and the two run side by side. Projects and settings from version 5 are not carried over. More on the version 6 page.

Why does Windows warn me when I run NeoDownloader?

The first time you run a new release, Windows may show Windows protected your PC: a new release is not yet well known to Windows. Download NeoDownloader from the version 6 page, then click More info and Run anyway. See Install NeoDownloader.

What does NeoDownloader send over the internet?

By itself, three requests: whether a newer version is out; with a licence, whether anything about the licence has changed; and the page shown in the window while no project is open. None of them carries anything about what you download, and the first two can be switched off - except one question about the licence, which a build outside your update window asks regardless. More in Privacy.

Can I download whatever I want?

The program does not decide that. What may be taken depends on the material and on the site's own terms; NeoDownloader keeps no list of allowed sites and does not check what a project downloads. More in Using what you download.

Does it run on macOS or Linux?

Not yet. For now version 6 is available for Windows.

Can it download on a schedule?

Not yet. For now a project runs when you start it.

How do I reach a person?

Write to us. Say which version you have - it is in the menu under About… - what you did, and what you saw. More in Reporting a problem.
