How to Download Photos and Videos from Instagram
Instagram's phone app can save a reel when its owner allows it, but not on a computer. For photos, videos, stories and highlights, one post or a whole profile, four steps:
One-time setup: download NeoDownloader and install it. It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. The steps below are what you repeat each time.
Copy an Instagram Address
In your browser, open the profile on Instagram and copy its address from the address bar. The address of a single post, a reel, somebody's stories or a highlight works too.
Paste It into NeoDownloader
Click “New project” - the wizard picks up the copied address by itself - and click “Next”. NeoDownloader recognises Instagram and selects its Gallery Downloader plugin, with the note “This address needs a login”. For a profile, the next step asks what to take from it: “Posts” is ticked, and you can tick “Reels”, “Stories” and “Highlights” as well.
Sign In to Instagram
Check the destination folder and click “Create project”. If you have not signed in to Instagram in NeoDownloader yet, Instagram opens in NeoDownloader's own browser - not your Chrome or Firefox; sign in there and click “Continue”. Later projects use that sign-in by themselves.
Get the Photos and Videos
The files come at the largest size Instagram has, into a folder named after the account, with one inside it for each section. They download under your account, and Instagram counts that as your activity. Run the project again later to fetch only the new ones.
Download Instagram Stories and Highlights
A story lasts a day on Instagram, so a project takes the stories that are up right now; run it again the next day for the new ones. What the author chose to keep is under Highlights, and a highlight downloads whole, its photos and videos alike.
For a profile, tick “Stories” or “Highlights” in the wizard. The address of somebody's stories - instagram.com/stories/… - or of one highlight - instagram.com/stories/highlights/… - works too.
Instagram shows stories only to people who are signed in, so stories and highlights need a sign-in.
