Projects
Everything NeoDownloader downloads belongs to a project. This page is about the list of projects: what a card tells you, how to find the project you want, how to change it and what happens when you delete it.
What a project is
A project is a download you can repeat. It holds:
- its Sources - the address you gave, or several;
- the Plugin that handles them;
- the Destination folder where its files go;
- its Plugin settings and Site settings;
- the files it has downloaded, and a Journal of what happened.
Run a project again and it downloads only what is new, and tries again what failed. The free version keeps up to 10 projects; projects in the trash do not count.
The project card
A card shows the project's cover - a picture from the project, or its first letter until it has one - and its name. Under the name are the site it downloads from and its tags.
Below them is the project's state:

| In queue | It is waiting for a running project to finish. In queue · 1 is the next to start. |
| Running | It is downloading. After Stop it says Stopping until the run has wound down, which can take a little while. |
| Completed | The last run finished. |
| Completed with errors | The last run finished, but some files from the project's own site could not be downloaded. |
| With errors | The last run failed. The card gives the reason where the numbers would be. |
| Stopped | The last run was stopped before it finished. |
| Plugin failed | The plugin stopped working during the run. |
Beside the state is a line of figures:
- while the project runs - 12 of 80, the size so far and the speed; a plus after the total, 80+, means the plugin is still finding files;
- the rest of the time - how many files the project holds and their size, and +5 new when the last run added files;
- Nothing downloaded - the last run finished, and the project has no files.
While a run goes, a thin bar fills along the bottom edge of the card.
On the right are the run buttons: Start from the beginning; Continue where it stopped, when the plugin can pick up an unfinished run; Stop, while the project runs; and Take out of the queue, while it waits. What each of them does is in Downloading.
Click a card to open the project beside the list. A double-click opens its Properties. The ⋯ menu on the card holds Tags, Open in browser, which opens the project's first address, Properties and Delete project.
Find a project
Search, sorting and filters are in a column beside the list. To open it, click Show filters, the funnel button beside Projects. In a narrow window the column opens as a panel over the list.
- Search projects narrows the list as you type. It looks in names, addresses, destination folders and tags; Esc clears it.
- The sort button orders the list by Date created, Date last run or Name, and the arrow beside it reverses the order. At first the newest projects are on top.
- Below are the filter groups. Each lists All and then its choices, with the number of projects beside each, and one of them is selected at a time:
- Site - when your projects come from more than one site;
- Tag - once a project has a tag; No tags finds the ones without;
- Plugin - when more than one plugin is in use; a plugin that is no longer there is listed as Not installed;
- State - the states from the table above, with Completed with errors counted as Completed, and Trash at the end.
Groups fold away, and a folded group still shows what it filters by. While a filter is on, Clear filters turns them all off - at the bottom of the column, and as a button beside the number of projects. Filters stay when the window is reloaded.
A new project that the filters would hide still shows above the list, under Just created. If a tag is selected in the filters, a project made with the wizard gets that tag.
Tags
Tags are your own labels. To tag a project, open the ⋯ menu on its card and point to Tags. Tick a tag that already exists, or click Add a tag, type a new one and click OK. The menu stays open for the next tick, and every change is saved at once.
Tags can also be changed in the project's Properties window.
Change a project
The Properties tab of an open project lists its address, folder and plugin, and the plugin settings that differ from their defaults. Beside an address are buttons to copy it and to open it in your browser; beside the folder, Open the folder.
To change something, click Edit on that tab or double-click the card. The Properties window has the Project page - Name, Sources, Destination folder with Choose…, the Plugin, which cannot be changed, and Tags - and the Plugin settings and Site settings pages. Click OK to save. Changes apply from the next run.
In the free version some choices are locked. They are shown with Free version: up to … and a link to Upgrade to Premium.
The tab also warns you when something is off:
- The plugin that handled this project is not installed any more. The project cannot run without it.
- The destination folder already has files in it.
Delete a project
Click Delete project in the card's ⋯ menu or at the bottom of the Properties tab. A running project cannot be deleted: stop it first.
The window says The project will be forgotten: its sources, settings and history. Below that is Also delete the downloaded files, unticked every time the window opens:
- leave it unticked, and the downloaded files stay on disk;
- tick it, and NeoDownloader deletes only what this project downloaded; anything else in its folder is left alone.
If some files could not be deleted - because another program has them open, for example - NeoDownloader says how many are still on disk.
The trash
A deleted project goes to the trash. To see it, pick Trash at the end of the State group in the filters. Each entry shows the project's name, when it was deleted and its folder, and Files were deleted if its files went too.
- Restore brings the project back and opens it - with its address, folder, settings, tags and description. It does not remember what it downloaded or what you deleted, so its Files tab is empty and its next run can download again the files that are no longer in its folder, the ones you deleted included.
- Delete for good removes one entry straight away.
- Empty the trash removes all of them, after asking.
The trash keeps the last 50 deleted projects and lets older ones go. The number is Deleted projects to keep in Settings… → Program → General. Set it to 0, and deleting a project becomes final and Trash disappears from the filters.
