Cosmos Downloader: Clusters, Profiles and Searches

Take what you collected on Cosmos with you: a cluster of references, all a profile has saved, or every element a search brings up. Pictures and videos come down together, so a mood board on cosmos.so becomes a folder you can open anywhere.

How to Download from Cosmos

Cosmos lets you save an element into a cluster of your own on the site; it has no button that puts a cluster on your computer. For that, three steps:

One-time setup: download NeoDownloader and install it. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The steps below are what you repeat each time.

  1. 1
    Cosmos
    cosmos.so/search/elements/flowers

Copy the Cluster, Profile or Search

On cosmos.so, open a cluster, someone's profile or a search for what you are after, and copy the address the browser shows for it.

  2. 2
    ProjectsNew project

What do you want to download?

    cosmos.so/search/elements/flowers

    Next

    Give It to NeoDownloader

Click New project, where the address is already waiting. Gallery Downloader knows Cosmos and names the project after the cluster, the profile or the words searched; click Next.

  3. 3

    Name and folder

    flowers

    Create project

    Bring the Elements Home

Tell it where the folder should be and press Create project. Every picture and video of the cluster lands there, the ones posted as a set kept in their order.

Cosmos Image Downloader, Videos Included

Each picture is saved at the size Cosmos keeps it, a size for the screen rather than for print. A video element is saved as an MP4 beside the pictures. Names are Cosmos's own numbers: the element's, then the file's code, as in 159674825_fdfcf6f6-2b18-42a4-8f20-6ce8aafca208.jpg.

An element holding several pictures keeps them numbered in the order Cosmos shows them.

Download Cosmos Search Results as a Mood Board

A search on Cosmos is an address of its own, cosmos.so/search/elements/ and the words. Paste it and the project, named after those words, collects every element the search finds - a ready set of references for a brief, a room or a palette.

Cosmos Links NeoDownloader Accepts

  • A cluster - cosmos.so/ with the profile's name and the cluster's after it
  • A profile - cosmos.so/ and the name, or with /collections for all its clusters
  • A search - cosmos.so/search/elements/ and the words
  • One element - cosmos.so/e/ and its number, also typed without https://

Why a Desktop App Instead of an Online Cosmos Downloader

An online saver takes one link at a time, and a browser extension only what is on the screen. NeoDownloader works through everything an address leads to, by itself, and keeps the page each file came from.
