Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the NeoDownloader program and the neodownloader.com website collect, why, and what you can do about it. Both are made by Neowise Software. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it with others except as this policy describes.

The Program

NeoDownloader has no telemetry, no usage analytics, and no crash reporting. What you download, the addresses you enter, your projects, and your sign-ins to websites stay on your computer.

The program contacts our servers in the few ways described below. Two of them run on their own, and each can be turned off in the settings.

Update check

Once a day, the program asks our server whether a newer version is out. The request carries the program's version, the operating system, and the processor architecture, and, on the first check of a new installation, a mark saying so. It carries no identifier of you or your computer.

Our server does not store your IP address for this. When a new installation checks for the first time, it records the version, the operating system, and the country your IP address belongs to, so that we can count installations.

To turn it off, clear "Check for updates" in the settings. The button that checks on demand still works.

License check

This concerns Premium only; the Free version never sends it.

When you activate a license with a short code, the program sends the code, an identifier of your computer, the program's version, the operating system's version, and the processor architecture. The identifier is a one-way hash of the ID your operating system keeps for the computer, so the ID itself is not sent, and the computer's name is never sent. Our server records the activation together with the IP address it came from, to count the computers a license is used on. Entering a full license key instead needs no network at all.

After that, the program confirms the license once a week, and daily near the end of your period of updates, sending the activation's number, the program's version, the operating system's version, and the processor architecture. This is how a renewal or a refund reaches the program. To turn it off, clear "Check the licence online" in the settings. Deactivating a computer sends only the activation's number.

The license key stored on your computer contains the name and email address given at purchase.

Pages from our website inside the program

When no project is selected, the program shows a page from our website with news and help. Loading it is an ordinary page request, and its address carries the interface's language and color theme. That page has no analytics and sets no cookies.

When you first enter an address in the new project wizard, the program downloads the list of our site guides from our website, so that it can suggest one. The address you entered is not sent.

Help, guides, and the order page open in your web browser, where the website section of this policy applies.

Websites you download from

The program connects directly to the websites you download from, as a web browser does, and those websites see your IP address and, where you have signed in, your session there. Their own privacy policies apply to that.

Your sign-ins, cookies, and the program's built-in browser profile are kept in the program's data folder on your computer and are never sent to us. The program's log files stay on your computer too.

When you sign in to DeviantArt from the program, DeviantArt returns an authorization code through a page on our website, in that page's address. The program reads the code on your computer and exchanges it with DeviantArt directly; our website does not store it.

The Website

Analytics

The website counts its visits with Umami, which runs on our own server. For each page viewed, it records the page's address, the page you came from, the approximate location your IP address points to (country, region, and city), the kind of device, the browser and operating system, the screen size, and the browser's language. The website also records when you click to download a file, naming the file, when it suggests a page in your language and whether you took the suggestion, naming the two languages, and when you open the instructions for keeping a file that Microsoft Edge held back.

It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Visitors are told apart by a one-way hash of the IP address and the browser, which changes every month; the IP address itself is not stored. The data stays on our server and is not shared with anyone.

Visits are not counted when your browser sends "Do Not Track", and the pages shown inside the program are not counted at all.

Storage in your browser

The website keeps three settings in your browser's local storage: your color theme, whether you closed the language suggestion, and the last pattern you typed into the Link Builder tool. They stay in your browser and are not sent to us.

Contact form

When you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, email address, the subject, your message, the department you chose, and whether you marked yourself as a registered user, together with your browser's language, its identification string, and your IP address. The message reaches us by email and is used to answer you. The website itself does not store it.

Orders

Purchases are processed by PayPro Global. Your payment details go to them, not to us, and are handled under their privacy policy. They pass us your name and email address so that we can issue your license key and send it to you.

Server logs

Like most websites, our servers may record technical data about requests, such as the IP address, the time, the address requested, and the browser, to keep the site secure and running. We do not use it to identify you.

NeoDownloader 5

The start page that the built-in browser of NeoDownloader 5 opens is a page of this website, and its visits are counted the same way. On the first run of a new installation, it sends our server the same installation check that version 6 sends.

Children's Privacy

NeoDownloader is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you

  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data

  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the program and the website change. The date below says when it last changed.
